The traditional house in the village of Mara, Desești commune, is representative of the north of Maramureș County. Surrounded by forests, the village has 3 nationally protected natural areas: Vlășinescu Marsh, the Creasta Cocoșului Nature Reserves, covering an area of 50 hectares, and Cheile Tăului. Set on one side of the Gutâi Mountains, the village is an authentic Romanian one.
